Museum Villa Stuck – programme booklets
The Museum Villa Stuck, former residence of ‘painter prince’ Franz von Stuck, is, aside from its focus on Art Nouveau and Symbolism, above all a house for contemporary art exhibitions. In 2017, we developed the graphic concept for several exhibitions and designed the programme booklet. The design of the programme booklet referenced the most important exhibition of each respective quarter. In each issue we employed a new colour concept and a different graphic style, whereas typography and format remained unchanged, in order to maintain recognition value. In the first issue we referenced the exhibition Manifesto by Julian Rosefeldt. In the booklet we worked with bold typography, using repetitions and strong contrasts as well as film stills and quotes from Manifesto. From June to September 2017, Villa Stuck dedicated a large show to the art director, Willy Fleckhaus. For this programme we were inspired by his editorial style for twen magazine, and we selected a colour concept based on Fleckhaus' Rainbow series for Suhrkamp. The third issue announced the exhibition of the two Israeli artists Nahum Tevet and Efrat Natan. In their practices they both work with found objects and everyday materials. Their main artistic medium is sculpture assembled from various objects. We applied this principle to the layout: The images are either directly adjacent or overlap like a collage.
