Willy Fleckhaus. Design, Revolte, Regenbogen
The first German art director Willy Fleckhaus made a name for himself by designing the magazine twen and the Suhrkamp rainbow series. His graphic design was catchy, and his art direction, at times scandalous by the standards of the time, brought new life to the German magazine culture. We cited Fleckhaus’ bold editorial style and placed huge quotes on the wall, which run through the retrospective like an independent story. Strong contrasts between black and white, as well as wide and narrow typeface, provide the supporting framework for the exhibition graphics.
